Try yoga!

Yoga: perfect aid to weight reduction

I’m guessing that the most common New Year’s resolution is to lose weight. And yet most people don’t think of yoga as part of a weight reduction programme. I know from personal experience that yoga keeps me at a consistent weight, and that regular practice not only tonifies my hips, butt, waist and thighs (and keeps other areas fairly perky, for someone , ahem, let’s say ‘over 40!). So I was searching for statistics about how many calories yoga burns, and hey presto, look at this blog post to find out more and about how you can lose weight with yoga.

Read the full article here: http://www.embodiedwellbeing.com/2012/01/yoga-perfect-aid-to-weight-reduction/

And why not join one of my three yoga classes in Stafford or Cannock. But I am worried that they are really missing out.”

Ryan Giggs, and a growing number of sportspeople (the long list includes West Ham and England goalkeeper, David James and tennis players Peter Sampras and Andy Roddick), are fans of the practice, saying that it tests parts of their bodies that their main sport never reaches.

But what yoga is best suited for is eliciting relaxation and a sense of wholeness which can mean that men can improve their performance at work and in other areas of life.

“In the 90 minutes of the class you focus on your body and breathing and leave feeling stretched and energised, yet very relaxed and focused. This is very good for getting work done. Men find that yoga improves their energy levels and even their sex life!”

Sue’s classes take place at Hayes Green Community Centre in Cannock on a Monday night, and for the months of September and October will be free to all new men who attend.

Read the full release here: http://myyoga.org.uk/PDFdownloads/PRCW10_%20ManYoga_FINAL.pdf

LOCAL BOOST FOR MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL WELLBEING

A new approach to self-help for the mind is coming to Stafford.

Not so much about ‘positive thinking’ or self-help mantras, the Emotional Wellbeing course is about achieving balance in both body and mind to boost mental and emotional health.

Designed by 42-year-old psychotherapist and yoga teacher, Sue Tupling, the eight week course relieves the symptoms of anxiety and depression using the latest in psychophysiology and neuroscience to give people simple yet powerful techniques they can practice themselves. The classes will introduce people to practices drawn from coherent breathing, mindfulness and deep relaxation techniques, yoga and self relations psychotherapy.

Sue believes that most people don’t know how to take care of their mental and emotional health – and GP surgeries are overwhelmed with people who need help.

“In Staffordshire alone, almost one in four people attend their GP surgery for mental-health related problems, and in the UK the number of prescriptions issued for antidepressant drugs has risen significantly.

The eight week course is funded by Staffordshire County Council’s wellbeing fund and is non-profit making and includes CD/DVD, workbooks and other resources for people to use at home.

Download the full Press Release PDF here:
http://embodiedliving.co.uk/Downloads/PRCW07_%20EmotionalWellbeing.pdf

NEW YOGA WORKSHOP: The Generative Self

A transforming combination of asana, pranayama, Qi Gong, energy work and self relations therapy to develop a deeper connection to self and nurture a state of disciplined flow and 'creative consciousness'. We believe in social progress and human potential. And we want to give access to powerful therapeutic and transformational programmes to those who are less privileged, economically or socially. We believe that business or companies have a responsibility to their local community and should not be in it just for profit or greed. Stuart was keen to find out what makes us happy and Sue discussed the aspect of optimistic thinking which “funnily enough is something that can be learnt”, Sue explained. There are techniques that can be taught to help people learn things like gratitude and forgiveness which ultimately can help increase creativity, productivity and tolerance.

Listen to the full interview here: http://www.embodiedwellbeing.com/2011/07/interview-on-bbc-radio-stoke/

To find out more about Emotional Wellbeing, call 01785 227183 or email: sue@embodiedliving.co.uk

NEW Emotional Wellbeing course

Embodied Living will be running its ‘Emotional Wellbeing: Beating Depression and Anxiety’ course on Friday 29th September 2011 at Oddfellows Hall in Stafford.

The course offers effective treatment for depression, anxiety and other mental health issues and is proven to bring about greater degrees of emotional wellbeing.
